March 13, 2020
We've been monitoring the plethora of news coverage and informational updates from a variety of sources about the nationwide outbreak of COVID-19, aka the novel coronavirus. The World Health Organization (WHO), the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the Oregon Health Authority are all recommending a strategy of social distancing to reduce the spread of the virus. Even those who feel healthy, and who aren't showing any signs of sickness, can still carry the virus and unwittingly infect others without knowing it.
Given the various groups of people that regularly gather in our facility, and to protect those in our congregation who might be especially susceptible to respiratory illness, the pastoral leadership team has decided to temporarily suspend our Sunday morning worship gatherings for the rest of the month of March. We make this decision in conjunction with the state of Oregon's temporary ban on high density gatherings, and in solidarity with many other churches in the Pacific Northwest Conference who are similarly suspending Sunday services. We will reevaluate and assess the situation three weeks from now.
Instead of our normal Sunday worship routine, Pastor Nate and I encourage you to join us for a broadcast over Facebook Live at 10am for the next three Sundays.
Please be aware that this was not an easy decision, nor was it based in fear. Rather, it was made under the prudent advisement of various community stakeholders, including many of you reading this. As we endeavor to do every week, we will continue to watch, pray and seek the Lord's wisdom and guidance during this unprecedented season.
